Chapter 01
Why chain link sags, and what keeps it tight
Chain link gets a bad name from the ones that sag. A sagging run is almost never a mesh problem. It's the frame: a line post that has started to lean, a top rail that's missing or short, or a terminal post at a corner or gate that was set too light and now gets dragged toward the run by the pull of the mesh.
A chain link fence lasts because the mesh is pulled tight against a rigid frame. The terminal posts at every end, corner and gate take the full pull, so they're the posts that matter most and the ones to set deepest and brace properly. The top rail ties the line posts together and keeps the top edge straight. Stretching the mesh to a proper tension, then fastening it to the posts, is what keeps it from bellying out when a dog hits it at a run.
That's how Sean McLaren and his crew build chain link at Fence Pros NWA, from Tontitown and Springdale across Northwest Arkansas. The black chain link jobs on this page are our own work.

Galvanized or black: what each one looks like
Galvanized chain link is the classic silver-gray. The steel wire is coated in zinc, and the zinc is what keeps it from rusting. It's the plain, practical choice, and it fades into a lot the way a wire fence should.
Black, or vinyl-coated, chain link carries a layer of coating over that wire, and it looks different. The mesh reads dark and recedes, so you see the yard through it instead of seeing the fence. That's why the pool yards in our photos look the way they do: black chain link blends into the trees and shadow behind it. Galvanized is the quieter pick for a utility area or a back lot, and either type goes up on the same frame of terminal posts and top rail. The choice is mostly about how you want it to look from the house.
Chapter 03
Pools, dogs, acreage and security
Chain link fits a lot of jobs: a pool yard, a dog run, a back acre, or a lot that has to stay closed.
Around a pool, you want a fence you can see through and a gate that latches on its own. Pool barriers carry rules about how they're built, and those rules come from your city and change over time, so check the pool-barrier requirements with your city before you choose a style. A dog yard needs a bottom edge that stays down and a gate that closes behind you. On acreage and for security, the same fence gets taller and tougher. One of our jobs, shown in our photos, is a black chain link enclosure with a barbed-wire top around a bee yard in open pasture. A barbed-wire top suits a pasture or a commercial lot, not a backyard, and some cities and HOAs restrict it, so check before you ask for one.
Chain link needs very little from you afterward. Keep vines and brush off the mesh, and if a post starts to lean or a gate begins to drag, call Sean at (479) 871-3942 before it pulls the whole run out of line. Catching one post early is a smaller job than rebuilding the fence.

Three of our own jobs: a large yard and pool, a second pool yard, and a pasture bee yard with a barbed-wire top. If you want something with more privacy, look at our wood privacy fences, or for a rigid, see-through metal fence, see steel and aluminum.

When the ground fights back
Every yard in Northwest Arkansas has something buried in it. Here is what one customer said about a job with a few of them.
“We had several obstacles including buried gas, electric & sprinklers to contend with. Sean & his crew communicated, executed and the finish product was better than I could have imagined.”
